Painting Wood Panel
Painting wooden panels gives not only beauty to the room but also adds character and charm to the room. A well chosen color can compliment the interior decor of a room. This gives a welcoming look to the room. Therefore painting wooden panels is quite essential. Following are some of the tips on how you can go through painting wooden panels :
Before you start you need a few things like powdered wall cleaner, sandpaper and a sanding block, tack cloth, clear lacquer, paint brushes, alkyd primer and latex paint.
1. Clean the wooden panel by removing dirt and dust particles thoroughly. Always use a powdered cleanser and never use liquid cleaners. Because these sprayers have a tendency of leaving thin layers which prevents the smooth application of the paint. Later on, wash off with water and dry completely.
2. Sand the area to be painted,
3. To wipe off the dust from sanding use a tack cloth; you can also apply clear lacquer if there are knots on the panel and let it dry completely,
4. To prime the panels use an alkyd primer that matches the color of the base coat. Allow it to dry completely. Later on finish off by applying two fine coats of latex paint. If you want to prevent the dark color of your wooden panel from showing through even after applying the paint, then use a primer with a stain block as it prevents the dark color from showing through,
5. To make a room little more glamorous use faux finishes,
6. Buy good quality paint always,
7. You have to apply a primer before painting if the previous paint was oil based and if you want to apply a latex paint now,
8. If there are wall imperfections then use flat finishes to conceal them; bedrooms and hallways can be finished this way as this type of finish suits those places where there is little activity,
9. For kitchens and bathrooms use semi-gloss finish as that is more reflective and has more sheen to it,
10. A paint with more shine or eggshell paint is suitable for children's rooms as it is easy to clean it and it also adds brightness to the room,
11. For cabinets and trims gloss paint are best suited and it's high sheen emphasizes defects present on the surface.
