Wood Garage Door
A tilt-up wood door is the most easiest to build and the most affordable type of wood door. By applying a skin of exterior plywood it can be built right in the driveway. This type of doors are called flush doors and they are quite strong, stable and affordable.
Some sections of these roll-up doors may have panel or flush construction. By fastening a plywood panel over a wooden frame, flush sections are made. Several separate rectangular panels are fit into a wooden frame for panel doors. Panels are made from a variety of materials while the outline frame is built of fir, or some other common softwood.
Flat surfaces of plywood, hardboard or three-dimensional raised or recessed panels are the type of panels for a door that is meant to be painted. Panels that are commonly used for three-dimensional variety are wood look alikes or cladwood made from composites with resin-impregnated overlays. Most of the wood doors are warranted for only one year.
Wood doors that are meant to be stained rather than painted or appearance-grade wood doors have solid wood panel inserts. These doors may have softwood frames with oak, mahogany or other hardwood panels and body may be all cedar or redwood.
Among garage doors appearance-grade wood doors are the most expensive.
