The Most Comfortable Chair

Chairs are built in accordance of a person's height, weight and body proportions. A chair which is comfortable for one person may not be so in the case of another person. Before purchasing a chair or a sofa one must answer three basic questions:

1. Which is the most comfortable sitting position when you sit on the seat?
2. Is the back comfortable?
3. Are the arms comfortable on the arm rest?

1. Which is the most comfortable position when you sit on the seat?

The seat can be considered as comfortable from different aspects like it's height, width, depth, slant and contour. If you find all of the above five as comfortable then think that you have got the right seat position.

2. Is the back comfortable?

To have a comfortable back position one should have a good shoulder support from the back of the chair. To consider a comfortable back position one should evaluate the chairs height, slant and scoop. If you have a tall back of the chair with a comfortable slant and scoop, then you have found the total comfort for your back. For the purposes of typing and sewing a tall back support is recommended.

3. Are the arms comfortable on the arm rest?

Your arms should be fully rested on the arm rests of the chair or sofa. That is including your elbows. The height of the arm rests should neither be tall nor be short. It should be in the right position to provide total comfort to your arms.

If you want to find out whether your chair is really comfortable, then answer the following questions:

1. Are your back and knees totally supported?
2. Do your feet reach the floor comfortably when you sit on the chair?
3. Do you feel safe and not as if falling off the sides?
4. Do you feel as though sitting on the center of the chair?
5. Do you feel as though the seat slant holds you in the chair?
6. Are your shoulders rightly supported by the back rest of the chair?
7. Do you feel comfortable with the back of the chair?
8. Do you feel the scoop of the chair back allow your shoulders to slightly roll forward?
9. Do you feel comfortable when you use the arm rests of the chair?

If you have answered all the above questions in affirmative, then think that you are already sitting in your most comfortable chair.
