Always place the hot dishes on top of the table mat to avoid causing damage to the surface of the table. Prevent the surface of your coffee table, dining table, and wood dressers from rings or water spots that are difficult to see caused by glasses and mugs by using coasters under them. You have to be careful while using these coasters because all the coasters are not user friendly. Some of the wood types receive reaction from plastic coasters while metal coasters can sweat onto the wood surface. Therefore wooden coasters are the best to use as they come with felt backing and waterproof material on the top. These type of coasters ensure the longevity of your coffee and dining table tops. The coasters that taper up on the side are the best to use as they prevent leakage.
Your wood tables, chairs and dressers can look as new as ever if you polish them every week as this protects your furniture from damage. Do not use cheap polishes or polishes that contain silicone or alcohol. The use of alcohol on your furniture can cause a permanent damage to it's surface as a floor cleaner containing ammonia causes damage to the floor. Home made polish is best suited and this can be made if one part of lemon oil is combined with three parts of olive oil.
You can use a diluted mixture of a very mild soap like hand soap and water for regular cleaning of your wooden furniture. On the other hand, if you want your wooden furniture to look and stay clean and beautiful as ever then have it buffed and polished by professionals once or twice a year.
